It seems like everyone these days has been asking me about blogs, what they are, what's all the fuss, do I really think matter. I do think they matter, as much for themselves as a new kind of communications media as I do for what they represent -- a fundamental change in how we market and communicate.
But if you want to understand about blogs and new digital media, what they can do and represent, you need to read them for a while to get a feel for it. In the marketing and communications world, these are my short list:
. Shel Holtz, a veteran PR guy with considerable depth in the Net and whose book, PR on the Net was a kind of bible.
. Neville Hobson, Shel's partner in a bi-weekly podcast on new technology, and a fine writer and communications person, and member of Blogging Planet alliance.
. B.L. Ochman, a fine writer and PR person, who specializes in blogging for business and who always tells it like it is.
. Steve Rubel, a VP of Client Services at a mid-sized NYC PR firm with a special practice in blogging and new media. Steve provides the most comprehensive blogging coverage.
. Andy Lark, former VP of Communications at Sun, veteran blogger and new media thinker.
. Tom Murphy an excellent communicator with an insightful blog on PR.
. Elizabeth Albrycht , a role model and wise clarifier of new technology, Founder of the New Communication Forum and recently with Neville and a few others, Blogging Planet alliance, a new communications consultancy.
. And finally, but not least of which, Evelyn Rodrigues, whom I've never met but admire, not simply for her insight on all things marketing, but her global involvement and altruism. Evelyn was recently caught in the Tsunami off the coast ot Thailand and returned to raise money and awareness for those hurt.
You can't do wrong with a crew like this. Follow their blogs for a month or two and you will not only learn a great deal about blogging but about effective marketing and PR.
Thanks for the kind words Robin!

With more than 200 PR blogs out there now, it's really hard to get a good take on the PR blogs and what's being written out there.
Those of use that went and/or presented at the NewComm Forum were lucky to meet and interact with the PR firms and people that get blogging and are working to integrate the tool. I learned alot by both presenting, networking and sitting in on others' sessions.
